Social Enterprises

Over the years, the number of persons on the autism spectrum ARC(S) served has increased. Some of them are now adults. To continue to create more job opportunities for those not in open employment, ARC(S) entered the space of social enterprises with the setting up of The Art Faculty Ltd and Prof Brawn Ltd.

Besides creating job opportunities, ARC(S) hopes to promote different abilities and special talents through these social enterprises.

The Art Faculty Ltd

The Art Faculty (TAF) is a social enterprise that retails art pieces and merchandise created by talented individuals on the autism spectrum. The programme artists not only earn royalties from the sale of their artworks and merchandise but also learn about the value and dignity of work and the financial independence.

TAF also collaborates with art practitioners, brand retailers and other organisations on product development and marketing to showcase these talents.

Art Related

  • "Art for Autism: All Things Singapore” (May - August 2021) A collaboration with The Fullerton Hotel Singapore. 30 artworks from 18 artists were exhibited.
  • “Desirable Excursions for Your Eyes” (December 2021 – March 2022) This year-end exhibition was part of the development roadmap to provide the artists with opportunities to curate, plan, execute and present their works at their own art exhibition.
  • “The Sea Show” (April - July 2021) A collaboration with Singapore Maritime Gallery. 23 artworks were showcased in this multi-media exhibition.
  • Two artists were commissioned by TANGS and their artworks were featured in TANGS storewide Christmas collaterals, gift wrapping and the store façade at both Orchard Road and Vivocity.
  • Collaborated with Cuturi Gallery, a professional art gallery, for a joint exhibition, involving both TAF artists and the gallery resident artists.

Merchandise

  • TAF entered its first foray into the international market with the Trio Vase Sets in "Orchids" and "Chai Chee Shophouse" designed by artists Nurul Amirah and Selena Seow, which were showcased and sold at The World Expo 2020 (Singapore Pavilion) in Dubai from October 2021 to March 2022. Expo 2020 saw 24 million visitors over the six months period.
  • Two new sales channels were established at Resorts World Sentosa S.E.A Aquarium and Adventure Cove.
  • Special pop-ups at Design Orchard and Takashimaya in the month of April in celebration of World Autism Awareness, and Takashimaya during the Christmas season.
  • Another successful collaboration with Tocco Toscano for a range of leather products launched under “TAF Edition” label.
  • New product collaboration with Swensen Singapore for ice cream mooncake gift sets.
Trio Vase Sets

Prof Brawn Ltd

Prof Brawn is a Food and Beverage social enterprise operated by ARC. Its mission is to provide affordable good food served by an inclusive workforce comprising people of different abilities, ages, and socio-economic backgrounds.

Prof Brawn operates three café outlets at Raffles Institution, Pathlight School Campus 1 and Enabling Village. It also operates ‘PB Express’, a multiple food kiosk model, at Pathlight School Campus 1 and Campus 2. The PB Express model was also replicated at Eden School with the creation of jobs for Eden graduates.

FY2021/2022 Highlights

Business at Prof Brawn was severely impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic and the subsequent phases of gradual easing of measures.

  • Prof Brawn responded to the pandemic swiftly by launching a series of new food menus which included the Sunset BBQ at the Enabling Village during Friday and Saturday evenings.
  • Weekday set lunches were introduced to encourage lunch crowd.
  • The outlet at Enabling Village proves to be a popular venue of choice for events such as wedding receptions, baby showers, birthday celebrations and other small corporate functions and seminars, with a capacity of 60-80 pax.
  • With the gradual increase in business activity, Prof Brawn was able to provide more training and employment opportunities to our beneficiaries.
